Richmond, VA From Above: See Why So Many People Are Calling RVA Home

You can learn a lot about a city by driving it. You learn more by flying over it.

I put a drone up over downtown Richmond and flew along the skyline and the James River. It's a 2-minute video, and it shows what I tell people who are thinking about moving here: Richmond gives you a real city without the big-city tradeoffs.

What you'll see

• The downtown skyline. Richmond has a compact downtown. You can go from office towers to historic neighborhoods to the river in a few minutes.
• The James River. It runs right through the middle of the city, which most cities can't say. People kayak, fish, hike and raft here without leaving town.
• How it all connects. From above, you can see how downtown, the river and the neighborhoods around them fit together. A map won't show you that.

Why it matters if you're moving here

I work with a lot of buyers relocating to Central Virginia. Most of them ask the same thing: "Where should I live?" It depends on what you want day to day:

• City living: walkable neighborhoods close to downtown and the river.
• More space for the money: Chesterfield, Hopewell and the surrounding counties.
• New construction: communities going up all over the Richmond region.
